APREA ESG Guidebook 2022

As the voice of sustainable investing in the Asia Pacific, APREA has developed the ESG Guidebook for Real Assets in Asia Pacific to raise awareness about ESG and guide our stakeholders in their journey to sustainability. We believe that capital allocated to real assets can play a meaningful role in the achievement of the sustainable development goals (SDGs), while leveraging growth opportunities in a manner that benefits all stakeholders.

We recognise that the ESG landscape continues to evolve, and this Guidebook lays out the basic foundation to integrate ESG and sustainability factors in how each of us conduct our businesses. Introduction

As part of APREA's commitment to helping members navigate the evolving ESG landscape, ESG KnowHow provides APREA members with centralized access to sustainability-focused research, tools, and resources.

ESG KnowHow contains a wide array of insightful articles, reports, case studies, videos, interviews, and other content to help APREA members better understand ESG topics and issues.

It is a one-stop go-to platform not only for APREA members who are just starting their ESG journey, but also for members who want to deepen their knowledge of ESG best practices.

Mission Statement

The Committee champions the adoption of ESG and Sustainability best practices amongst members in making real estate investment decision. Through thought leadership, knowledge sharing, capacity building and collaboration, the committee seeks to raise awareness and stimulate action amongst investors to accelerate the industry transition towards a low-carbon built environment with circularity & resilience in mind.

Objectives

  • Thought leadership: To advocate ESG integration as a business case using successful role models in responsible real estate investment and practices through forums and events.
  • Collaboration: To encourage and facilitate Public-Private-People partnership to identify investment opportunities for climate mitigation and adaptation.
  • Sustainable Finance: To mobilize capital market to fund green infrastructure, technologies and accelerate sustainable development particularly in emerging markets in the region.
  • Capacity Building: To offer guidance for members to achieve best practices in ESG disclosure and sustainability reporting.

Knowledge Brief Volume 5. “Infrastructure Investing in Asia Pacific”

The Asian Development Bank estimates the region needs US$1.7 trillion that ADB through 2030 to keep pace with climate change and economic growth. Infrastructure assets provide essential services that support economic growth, generate productivity and underpin the operation of society.  If our vision of a dynamic and progressive region is to become reality, there is a need to understand the infrastructure needs across the region that will facilitate a greater role for the investment community.
