Mission Statement

The Committee champions the adoption of ESG and Sustainability best practices amongst members in making real estate investment decision. Through thought leadership, knowledge sharing, capacity building and collaboration, the committee seeks to raise awareness and stimulate action amongst investors to accelerate the industry transition towards a low-carbon built environment with circularity & resilience in mind.

Objectives

  • Thought leadership: To advocate ESG integration as a business case using successful role models in responsible real estate investment and practices through forums and events.
  • Collaboration: To encourage and facilitate Public-Private-People partnership to identify investment opportunities for climate mitigation and adaptation.
  • Sustainable Finance: To mobilize capital market to fund green infrastructure, technologies and accelerate sustainable development particularly in emerging markets in the region.
  • Capacity Building: To offer guidance for members to achieve best practices in ESG disclosure and sustainability reporting.

The Importance of ESG in the Real Assets Industry

Do you know that the real estate sector accounts for nearly 40% of global carbon dioxide emissions? Building operations account for 70% of these emissions, while construction produce the remaining 30%. To achieve global climate goals such as combating climate change and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, there is a need for real assets companies to set environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) targets.

So, what exactly is environmental, social, and governance (ESG), and why should real estate firms care?
