Sharifah Bakar Ali

As the Head of ESG in UEM Edgenta Berhad, Sharifah directs and manages the organisation’s approach to sustainability matters from regulatory compliance to building a solid sustainability culture in Edgenta. She was instrumental in producing a 2-year sustainability roadmap for Edgenta and the creation of an ESG team in Edgenta. Sharifah joined UEM Edgenta in July 2021.

Prior to UEM Edgenta, Sharifah provided investor relation services for corporate and institutional clients in the global real estate markets through Bespoke Globiz, an Asia based consulting and advisory boutique firm, which she founded. In this capacity, she showcased more than USD5 billion worth of commercial, industrial and residential real estate assets to investors in Southeast Asia (SEA). At Bespoke Globiz, Sharifah also partnered with various consulting firms in Malaysia to lead the delivery of transformation and change management strategies for private and public clients in SEA including the African continent. In these projects, she also facilitated various diagnostic workshops attended by senior management team members and top government officials to brainstorm solutions for client’s business and operational problems.

Before Bespoke Globiz, Sharifah was the Head of South East Asia Business Development for Gatehouse Bank Kuala Lumpur Representative Office, which was part of a London based real estate investment bank.

Sharifah trained as an investment banker and has worked at investment banks in Malaysia and the Middle East specialising in the areas of debt capital markets and Islamic finance. During her time at Maybank Investment Bank between 2003 and 2006, she advised the Government of Malaysia in structuring the country’s landmark Residential Mortgage Backed Securitisation (RMBS) transaction.

Sharifah also successfully led a team of global advisors in executing the Kingdom of Bahrain’s inaugural RMBS transaction in 2008.

Sharifah is passionate about coaching and nurturing talent. She mentors professionals and also reskills both men and women who are on career breaks to enable them to return to the workspace or become entrepreneurs. Sharifah was awarded a Chevening Scholarship by the British Government in 2010 to pursue a Master in Business Administration degree at Cambridge Judge Business School. She graduated from Cambridge with an MBA in 2011. She also graduated from the International Islamic University, Malaysia in 1998 with a Bachelor of Accounting (Hons) degree. Sharifah is a Chartered Accountant and a Certified Public Accountant.

Tan Szue Hann

Ar. Tan Szue Hann, MBA, M. Arch, is an award-winning ESG and sustainable development professional, strategist, and thought leader in Sustainability. He is currently Head of Sustainability and Deputy General Manager, Sustainable Urban Renewal, at Keppel’s Real Estate Division. He has been Director of Sustainability Development and Engineering at Marina Bay Sands, and Chairman of Sustainability, Singapore Institute of Architects. In 2021, with a group of international sustainability leaders, he co-founded IxSA (Innovation x Sustainability Alliance), a non-profit global think tank. He has also been a Board Member of the Singapore Green Building Council, and an invited member of the BCA Green Built-Environment Advisory Committee. He has previously been Managing Director of MINIWIZ, a Temasek-supported circular economy company that turns waste materials into architecture and products, and was Head of Sustainability and Resiliency at Singapore-based global infrastructure consultancy Surbana Jurong from 2013-18.

Hann obtained an MBA with Distinction from Northumbria University in 2022, with a thesis on strategic management in businesses through ESG. He graduated with M Arch from the National University of Singapore (NUS), with a visiting fellowship to the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2007, and a BA Arch (First Class Honours) in 2006. On graduation, he was awarded the Lee Kuan Yew Medal, Board of Architects Medal, and the ICI Gold Medal. He is a Registered Architect in Singapore, and also an appointed World Cities Summit Young Leader (from 2016), and BCA Built Environment Young Leader (from 2016), both by the Ministry of National Development, Singapore. He has also taught multiple sustainability and architecture courses at local universities NUS and SUTD.

Hann was also Singapore’s 2015-16 Young Green Architect of the Year, awarded by BCA-SGBC, and a Minister's Award recipient (2017), Singapore. He was elected Chairman of the ARCASIA (Architects Regional Council Asia) Committee for Young Architects (2017-18) and in 2017, was inducted into Generation T, a group of society and community changemakers below the age of 40, as one of Cartier’s 5 Bright Sparks, by Asia Tatler. In 2019, he was inducted into the Prestige 40 Under 40 List, by Prestige Singapore, as one of the leading Changemakers in the nation. He was also awarded the inaugural BCA Young Leader Advocate Award 2019, for his work in sustainability and the built environment.

Hann's sustainable development portfolio includes the award-winning ParkRoyal on Pickering, the SPACE Asia Hub and the Ogilvy & Mather office with WOHA; the BCA SkyLab, a rotatable test bed for building technologies, which won a Minister’s Award on Singapore’s National Day, 2017. He has also managed the design of an 8000-hectare circular economy master plan north of Bangkok, and an IT campus in Bangalore. He has spoken in numerous international conferences, including the World Cities Summit 2019 in Medellin, Colombia, the UN-organised 2019 Asia Pacific Urban Forum 7 in Penang, COP25 in Madrid in December 2019, and the UN Global Compact Network Summit in 2022.

Hann’s primary skills are in sustainability solutioning and accreditation, strategic management, ESG integration with corporate policy and best practice, effective team facilitation and management, and the translation of sustainability strategies into real estate value.
